Deciding where you want to school is a daunting task. There are many criteria to choose from. Some people want to go to a certain school because it has a program they really want to study. Others choose schools based on location. Some narrow it down on cost. Whatever your criteria may be, there are many sites to help you narrow down your options. Here are some of my favorites:

1. FindAMasters

FindAMasters is a great do-it-all site. Your primary search will be based on the program you want to study. From there, you can narrow it down based on location, length of terms, and many other things. Plus, you can view a brief overview, including application requirements, straight from their website. No need for extra tabs to check out the program's general details. It's especially good for European schools.

2. GradTrek

GradTrek is one of the new kids on the block. Its user interface is really nice and straightforward when it comes to figuring out what you want to go for. However, it's built mainly as a search engine for US schools. And you should register to save your information (which may be good, depending on how many schools you need to keep track of).

3. MastersPortal

MastersPortal (part of StudyPortal) is another good site where you can narrow down your search through a lot of criteria. The main hindrance is that, in order to view all of the information, you need to register an account. Though, a linked Google or Facebook account should do it. But once you log in, all the information you need is right there in front of you and you can save programs and even compare.

4. Google

While Google doesn't have a dedicated Masters search site, the site itself is a great tool. For this, you can just toss in a program's general name and a location (if you so desire) and a lot of sites will pop up. However, you'd need to sort through them yourself and pull the information out. Only use this as a last resort, if the other websites didn't come up with anything you particularly are interested in.

I used FindAMasters (and subscribed to their email mailing list) to find a program that fit my needs. But, it may not be for everyone (and it didn't list every program out there) so use some of these alternatives if necessary! Happy hunting!
